symposium speaker: Eva Sopeoglou, Architect and Senior Lecturer, Kingston School of Art

Eva Sopeoglou is a registered architect with many years of professional experience, currently running her award-winning practice between Greece and the UK. Eva is also a Senior Lecturer at Kingston School of Art and a PhD-by-practice candidate at UCL’s The Bartlett School of Architecture. Her work, which overlaps academic research, professional practice and university teaching, pursues a keen interest in materials, craft and fabrication and a creative engagement with technology informed by a knowledge of architectural engineering, structures and advanced building design. The work has received national and international acclaim, awards and research grants, and has been published and exhibited internationally.

Eva will be talking about her work  which draws reference from the theories of seminal 19th century architect Gottfried Semper, who considered architecture as a form of dressing and buildings as intrinsically linked to clothing. Patterns, textured surfaces as well as pattern-making are all explored in her work, where architectural surfaces are treated similarly to textiles as having temporal and material qualities.
